Baines set for new Everton deal

The Mirror understands that Leighton Baines is on the verge of agreeing a new long-term contract with Everton, all but ending Manchester United’s hopes of signing him this month.

The England international has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions ever since his former manager David Moyes took the reins at Old Trafford.

Two bids were made by United in an attempt to secure his services in the summer, though both were rejected out of hand by the Merseyside club, who have now moved to further deter any potential suitors by offering the 29 year old an improved deal.

Meanwhile, the Mirror have also reported that Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael are both on their way out of the club according to their agent.

Fabio is set to move to Cardiff City on loan for the rest of the season, where he will link up with United legend Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, who became their manager earlier this month while Rafael, who remains the clubs first choice right back, is also likely to leave in the summer.

Elsewhere, following reports that Anders Lindergaard could be moving on, United have been linked with a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to the Mirror.
