Bayern enter Thiago race

European Champions Bayern Munich could scupper Manchester United’s hopes of singing Thiago Alcantara, the Telegraph understands.

The Red Devils arrived in Bangkok for the start of their pre-season tour this morning with a degree of uncertainty surrounding their top transfer target this summer, who himself is set to resume pre-season training with Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola, who worked with the Spanish international for several years at the Nou Camp, has confirmed his interest in taking the 22 year old to Germany, as he looks to defend the league, cup and European cup in his first season as manager.

However, Vincente Del Bosque has urged the player to remain at the Nou Camp, according to the Independent.

The Spanish national coach, who is likely to include the midfielder in next summer’s World Cup squad, believes that he doesn’t necessarily have to move on to get the games he desires.

Elsewhere, United have moved to stress that Nemanja Vidic’s absence from the tour of the Far East is nothing serious, the Metro understands.

A club spokesperson has confirmed that the defender has a minor injury, and may join the club at a later date in the tour.

Finally, Manchester United’s game against Swansea City on the opening day of the season will be the first Premier League fixture of the new season shown by Sky Sports.

The game will kick off at 17:30 UK time, on Saturday, August 17th.
