Jones hails Mata impact

Phil Jones believes that the arrival of Juan Mata has raised spirits at Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.

The Spain international completed his club record switch from Chelsea at the weekend, and made his debut in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Tuesday evening.

United have struggled relatively this season having been knocked out of both domestic cups and, following seven league defeats so far, trailing league leaders Manchester City by thirteen points.

However, Jones is of the opinion that the signing of one of the division’s best players has galvanised the champions, who are keen to impress their new number eight.

Meanwhile, with the transfer window set to slam shut tomorrow, Napoli have joined the race to sign Fabio Coentrao, Talksport understands.

David Moyes is reportedly keen on bringing in more players before tomorrow’s deadline, with a left back thought to be high on the Scot’s agenda.

United failed to agree a deal for the Portugal international during the summer, and Rafael Benitez is keen to pip them in the race to secure his services this time around.

The 25 year old has made just four La Liga appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s men so far this season.
