United ease to victory at Villa

Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, beating Aston Villa 3-0 at Villa Park.

Danny Welbeck doubled his league goals tally for the season with two quick fire goals in the first half, before Tom Cleverley put the result beyond doubt seven minutes into the second half.

One other talking point from the game was the appearance of Darren Fletcher, who replace Ryan Giggs for the final twenty minutes.

It was the Scotland international’s first outing in almost twelve months after struggling with a bowel disease.

With leaders Arsenal losing at Manchester City, David Moyes’ men have closed the gap between them and the Gunners to ten points, and will hope to further capitalise further next weekend.

United host struggling West Ham United on Saturday afternoon while Arsene Wenger’s side face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Monday evening.

However, they will first turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s trip to Stoke City in the quarter finals of the League Cup.

Meanwhile, the Premier League champions will face Olympiakos in the last sixteen of the Champions League.

The first leg will be played in Piraeus on February 25th with the return match at Old Trafford three weeks later.
