After grabbing a class left back in the form of Luke Shaw from Southampton, Manchester United is looking for another player for that position and the guy whom they have set their eyes on is Daley Blind, the 24-year old Ajax Amsterdam player.
Blind is also eager to unite with his compatriot Louis Van Gaal.
The amount of money that is being demanded by Ajax for the player is about 17 million Pounds.
What Van Gaal wants to do by bringing in Blind is to keep Luke Shaw on his toes. He wants a fierce competition within the team for that all important left-back place in the XI.
Apart from the competition, the other thing is that Shaw is not believed to be fit for selection in the starting few matches in the league. He has been battling with a few fitness issues. Patrice Evra is not there in the squad either now. So, signing one more defender to play in the left has sort of become necessary for the Red Devils.
Blind was brilliant featuring for the Holland national side in the FIFA World Cup 2014. In Oranje’s first match in the tournament in which they had thrashed the reigning champions Spain, he had set up a couple of goals.
During the World Cup, when Blind was asked about him being linked to United, he had said, “A couple of my countrymen, Louis and Robin, are associated with United. So, it’s easy for people to link me to that club.”
“It’s obviously great for a young player to attract attention, but, I am not going to go too much into it.”
In his 99 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax so far, Blind has found the back of the net 3 times.
