United overhaul could hamper pre-season

Manchester United manager David Moyes is facing the prospect of having a depleted squad for their preseason tour of America, according to the Mail Online.

Rio Ferdinand looks set to follow fellow centre-back Nemanja Vidic and midfielder Anderson out of the club at the end of the season, while there is uncertainty over the future of a number of other players in the Scots’ squad.

Patrice Evra, Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie, Nani and Shinji Kagawa all have question marks over their positions at the club, having all been linked with moves away in recent months.

Moyes is thought to be keen on bringing in as many as eight new faces in the summer, though with the distraction of the World Cup finals in Brazil, getting deals over the line will be far from straight forward.

The Mirror understands the Paris Saint Germain forward Edinson Cavani currently tops the clubs list of targets.

The Uruguay international is reportedly frustrated at being played out of position with the Ligue One leaders, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the main man in Laurent Blanc’s side.

Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos has also been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, while a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is also being considered.
