United ready for City test

Manchester United will be hoping to continue their winning momentum when they take on neighbours Manchester City at Old Trafford this evening.

The Premier League champions can move to within two points of fifth place Tottenham Hotspur with victory over their fierce rivals, and close the gap on City to nine points.

David Moyes could potentially be without four centre backs for the match, with Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling all doubtful and Nemanja Vidic suspended.

Anotonio Valencia should be fit enough to feature after recovering from an eye problem, while Robin van Persie remains out with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has urged the club to make a bid for Southampton’s Adam Lallana when the transfer window reopens, according to the Express.

The England international has been in sublime form for the South Coast side this season, and scored his ninth goal of the season in their 3-2 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

His performances have seen him gain recognition at international level by England manager Roy Hodgson, with the 25 year old looking almost certain to be included in the squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
