United set up semi-final with Sunderland after beating Stoke

Manchester United will face Sunderland in the semi-final of this season’s Capital One Cup after beating Stoke City 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium yesterday evening.

Stunning second half goals from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra secured victory for David Moyes’ men, though at one point the game looked close to being abandoned though play was suspended only shortly during the first forty-five minutes.

The Premier League champions will now face bottom of the table Sunderland, with the first leg set to take place at the Stadium of Light on January 7th.

Manchester City will face West Ham United in the competition’s other last-four tie.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have joined the race to sign Wilfried Zaha on loan where the transfer window reopens next month, the Mail Online understands.

Until moving to Manchester in the summer, the England international has spent the entirety of his short career so far with the Eagles, making over one hundred league appearances for the club, culminating in their promotion back to the top flight via the play offs in May.

New Palace boss Tony Puls is keen on taking Zaha back to Selhurst Park, as he attempts to guide the London club to safety.
