Vidic back for Villa clash

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their derby day disappointment when they take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The champions welcome back Nemanja Vidic from suspension though fellow defenders Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are doubtful with hamstring and calf problems respectively and Robin van Persie remains out with a knee injury.

Victory will see David Moyes’ men move to within two points of sixth place Tottenham Hotspur and three behind Everton.

Spurs travel to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, while Everton go to bottom of the table Fulham earlier in the day.

United ran out 3-0 winners when they faced Paul Lambert’s men at Villa Park back in December, while they recorded the same scoreline in last season’s corresponding fixture last April thanks to a hat-trick from Robin van Persie – the game in which they clinched the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, five members of United’s Class of ’92 have agreed a deal to purchase non-league outfit Salford City, according to the Guardian.

Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes have clubbed together to buy the Evo-Stik League Division One North side, subject to FA and league approval.
