Vidic: We can compete

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is confident the club can retain the Premier League title this season, according to the Daily Star.

The champions are currently third favourites behind Chelsea and neighbours Manchester City to lift the trophy on May 11th, largely down to their inactivity in the transfer market.

However the former Serbia international, who guided United to victory in the Community Shield on Sunday, is sure that they can compete under new manager David Moyes.

The former Everton boss faces a baptism of fire in the league, with games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the first few weeks of the season.

Meanwhile, England manager Roy Hodgson is set to select Wayne Rooney in his starting eleven for tomorrow evening’s friendly international against Scotland at Wembley, the Daily Star understands.

The 27 year old has barely featured for United in preseason, amid continued speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

Six other United players are in line to feature against the Tartan Army, following the withdrawal of winger Ashley Young, as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury that kept him out of Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial and the Community Shield victory over Wigan Athletic.
