CAN UNITED WIN THE LEAGUE?

Manchester United kept their faint title hopes alive with the impressive away win over league leaders Manchester City at the weekend. Manchester United have themselves to blame after relinquishing their place at the top of the table in January. The Red Devils were usurped by Manchester City at the league summit due to their amazing victory run. Ahead of the Manchester Derby clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Manchester City had 14 more points than Manchester United with 11 games left to play but the Red Devils have been able to cut that lead back to 11 points after the 2-0 win over the Citizens. The victory has given some fans renewed hope that they can win the league title ahead of their neighbours. Those optimistic Manchester United fans would be hoping that win will deal a big psychological blow on Manchester City ahead of the final ten games of this season’s Premier League campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Manchester United players had won their last two league meetings at the home of Manchester City but the league leaders were still the favourites ahead of Manchester United especially with their sensational 21-game winning run. At the end of the game, Manchester United had secured a third successive league win at the Etihad Stadium in addition to stopping the winning run from Manchester City. The most significant effect of the win was the points, which has been reduced from 14 to 11. Manchester United will have to be consistent between now and the rest of the season to capitalise on further dropped points in the title race. Manchester United will have to win all their remaining ten games to have any chance of beating Manchester City to the title.
