Cleverley: I learned from the best

Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley has spoken of Paul Scholes influence on him as a player, ahead of England’s World Cup Qualifier with Montenegro.

The 23 year old, has been touted as a long term replacement for Scholes when he eventually hangs up his boots, is set to win his ninth international cap in Podgorica tomorrow evening.

Scholes bagged 14 goals in 66 appearances for England, while Cleverley is yet to score; something which he admitted is a slight disappointment.

“I’d like that first England goal, it’s what every lad dreams of”, the midfielder told the Daily Star.

Meanwhile, Manchester City Joeleon Lescott has assured Engalnd fans and the press that Wayne Rooney will keep a cool head in the Group H clash.

Rooney was sent off when the sides last met in Montenegro back in 2011, though Lescott believes that both Rooney, and the squad as a whole have matured in the last two years.

Elsewhere, the club have been linked with a move for Porto defender Elaquim Mangala.

The France U21 international who would be a potential long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand, who is still yet to sign a new contract at Old Trafford, has scored twice in seventeen league appearances this term.
