Fryers set to follow Pogba out?

Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t hide his disgust when it was announced that Paul Pogba had finally departed the club and joined Juventus earlier in the week. It appears as though Fergie could be infuriated for a second time now, with fellow youngster Zeki Fryers reportedly set to join rivals Tottenham.

Ferguson claimed he was glad to see the back of Pogba following his move, after the Frenchman refused to even enter discussions about a new contract at Old Trafford. At the same time, SAF stated that he did not have a clue what was happening with Zeki Fryers, after the 19-year-old had also failed to respond to the club’s offer of a new contract.

It is understood that United were hopeful that Fryers would simply return to pre-season training, with Ferguson telling MUTV on Monday, “We haven’t heard anything from Zeki Fryers. I don’t know what’s happening there but he’s not been in touch with the club. His agent hasn’t been in touch with the club and I can only assume he’ll be back for training.”

However, it now looks as though Fryers has been locked in negotiations with Spurs over a move, with the White Hart Lane outfit reportedly set to tie up a ridiculous £20,000 a week contract for the youngster. Moreover, it looks as though the transfer will head to a tribunal, with Spurs apparently unwilling to match the £4m price tag that United have slapped on him. Instead, they value Fryers at closer to £2m.

Should Fryers depart Old Trafford, he would become the third young prospect to leave in a short space of time following the recent departures of Pogba and Ravel Morrison. It appears as though United are failing to offer the big contracts that several of their rivals are, which is somewhat understandable as these players would not be first team regulars at Old Trafford for at least several more years.
