Lead cut to 5 points

Manchester United’s lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to five points following their 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The game had been threatened to be postponed following a late pitch inspection due to a heavy snowfall, but got underway with the visitors hoping to maintain a seven point advantage over neighbours Manchester City.

Top scorer Robin Van Persie gave the visitors the lead with his 22nd goal of the season on 25 minutes before Clint Dempsey’s stoppage time equaliser gave the hosts a share of the spoils.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will now concentrate on Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Fulham, before beginning a run of favourable league fixtures against Southampton at Old Trafford four days later.

The Red Devils are reported to have stolen a march on Arsenal in the race to sign Crystal Palace’s Wilfred Zaha, while The Express report that Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen is also a target.

Elsewhere, stiker Federico Macheda is set to be loaned out to Spanish Segunda Division leaders Elche.

The Italian has not featured at all in the Premier League this season, having ended the last campaign at Queens Park Rangers.
