Lewandowski not joining Bayern

Manchester United are on high alert following news that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski will not be joining Bayern Munich.

The Metro reports that the European Champions had been favourites to sign the Poland international, after the players agent hinted that a deal had already been agreed.

However, Dortmund are reluctant to lose another of their star players to their fierce rivals, having already sold them midfielder Mario Gotze for £30million.

United have been monitoring Lewandowski for some months, with new manager David Moyes believed to share predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson’s views on the striker.

The 24 year old scored 24 goals in 31 league appearances last season, and was integral in his sides run to the Champions League final at Wembley last month.

Chelsea are also said to be interested, though moves for Zenit St. Petersburg forward Hulk and Edinson Cavani of Napoli are reportedly the clubs priority.

Meanwhile, United are set to complete the signing of highly rated French Under-21 midfielder Nampalys Mendy on a free transfer.

Reports in France suggest that the 20 year old will reject a new contract at Monaco in order to seek a new challenge in the Premier League.

Finally, the date for the Community Sheild has been announced.

United will face FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic on August 11th at Wembley Stadium.
