LINDELOF DOUBTFUL FOR CARABAO CUP SEMIS

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is a doubt for the Carabao Cup semi-final clash with city rivals Manchester City with a place in the final in April up for grabs. Manchester United play hosts to Manchester City at the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday night hoping to seal a final place in the Carabao Cup ahead of their opponents. Manchester City are the holders of the competition having won it for the last three seasons. They saw off Manchester United in the semi-finals of the competition last term via the away goals rule and the Red Devils will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the outcome of thatManchester Derby tie with the Citizens at the same stage this season.

Swedish international Victor Lindelof has a long-standing back problem and has managed to play through the pain in some games this season.

The Manchester United centre back was missing for the last two league games as a result of the injury. The back problem forced him off the last away game in the league, a 2-2 draw at the home of Leicester City. Victor Lindelof missed the home games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa in the Premier League due to previously mentioned back injury thus making him a doubt for the Manchester City game on Wednesday night. He was absent as Manchester United beat Wolves 1-0 courtesy the last gasp strike from Marcus Rashford. Lindelof was also missing for the 2-1 win over in-form Aston Villa.

Ahead of the Manchester City game later this week, defenders Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are long-term absentees for the Red Devils, while new signing EdinsonCavani will also miss the game. Uruguayan striker Cavani will serve the second game of his three-match ban imposed on him by the English Football Association for his perceived racial post on social media.
