Mata confident of top four challenge

Juan Mata is confident that Manchester United can still finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, according to Sky Sports.

The reigning champions, who have just returned from a warm-weather training trip to Dubai, are eleven points behind Liverpool – the current occupiers of fourth place.

However, the club’s record signing believes that the United squad is good enough to get there season back on track, even with just twelve league games remaining.

Their challenge will continue at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, before they face Olympiakos in the first leg of their Champions League last sixteen tie.

Meanwhile, the club are set to go head to head with rivals Manchester City in the race to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, the Mirror understands.

The 23 year old was close to securing a move to the Etihad stadium during the winter transfer window, though the proposed deal fell through.

With Nemanja Vidic leaving the club at the end of the season, and Rio Ferdinand expected to following out of the exit door, David Moyes is on the lookout for reinforcements.

Paris Saint Germain have also been linked with a move for Mangala, who has been valued at £38m by the Portuguese champions.
