Mata set for United medical

Juan Mata is set to undergo a medical on Friday afternoon ahead of his proposed move from Chelsea to Manchester United.

Reports say that a central Manchester hospital is waiting to carry out a physical examination on the 25 year old, who has told his teammates that a move is imminent.

The move looks to have been given the all clear by the Blues after a deal was agreed for them to bring in Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah from Basel.

United are set to pay a club record fee of £37m for the Spain international, eclipsing their previous record of £30.75, which they paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov five-and-a-half years ago.

Mata was voted Player of the Year in both of his full seasons at Stamford Bridge, but fell out of favour following the return of manager Jose Mourinho.

He made just seventeen appearances for the London club this season, scoring his only goal in a League Cup victory over Arsenal in October.

Elsewhere, former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted a role as an ambassador to UEFA, European football’s governing body.

The Scot retired after twenty-seven years in charge at Old Trafford.
