Meulensteen linked with Wigan vacancy

Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen has been installed as the favourite to become Wigan Athletic’s new manager after Roberto Martinez was given permission to leave the Latics.

The Mirror yesterday reported that Meulensteen would rather leave Old Trafford that revert back to his former role as Head of Youth Development following the arrival of new manager David Moyes.

The Scot will be bringing first team coach Jimmy Lumsden and goalkeeping coach Chris Woods with him from Everton.

Elsewhere, Manchester United target Angel Di Maria is the latest name to be linked with a big money to France, with both Paris Saint Germain and Monaco said to be interested in the Argentinian.

Scouts from Old Trafford have been monitoring the 25 year olds situation for some time, but the club are set to be priced out of a move with Claudio Ranieri’s side in particular likely to swoop.

Monaco recently signed fellow United target James Rodriguez, and Joao Moutinho from Porto, and also look likely to complete deals for Atletico Madrid stiriker Radamel Falcao and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

A potential move for United winger Nani has also been rumoured, following reports that the Portuguese winger is likely to leave Old Trafford this summer.
