Moyes has defensive headache ahead of Sociedad clash

Central defensive duo Rio Ferdinad and Nemanja Vidic are both doubtful for this evening’s visit of Real Sociedad.

Both missed the 1-1 draw with Southampton at the weekend with minor knocks, with Phil Jones and Jonny Evans deputising.

Tom Cleverley may also miss out as he struggles to recover from a calf injury, while Danny Welbeck missed the final training session ahead of the game.

However, the club have been boosted by the availability of midfielder Adnan Januzaj, who has been added to the Champions League squad as a home grown player having missed the win over Bayer Leverkusen and draw at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Three points here would see David Moyes’ men strengthen their position at the top of Group A ahead of the return match in Sociedad in a fortnight’s time.

Elsewhere, Darren Fletcher has returned to training, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Scotland international has played just thirteen times since being diagnosed with a chronic bowel condition in December 2011, with his last game coming in the 4-3 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day last year.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has also hinted that he may be nearing an international recall, after revealing that he had a positive phone conversation with the 29 year old.
