Moyes praises Rooney amid transfer speculation

Incoming Manchester United manager has been praising Wayne Rooney, after it was confirmed that the England international has handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford.

Speaking yesterday Moyes, who sold Rooney to United back in 2004, was asked about the 27 year olds progress since arriving in Manchester.

The 50 described Rooney as “one of the best players in the world”, before reminiscing of his talents on the training ground as a teenager.

One of Moyes’ first tasks when taking over as Manchester United manager on July 1st is to resolve the situation with Rooney, who has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, the club are reportedly keen on signing Bareclona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who is reportedly set to leave the Nou Camp in the summer.

Before moving to Spain, Fabregas spent seven years at Arsenal with United striker Robin Van Persie, and that friendship could be key in luring the World Cup winner to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand is set to be offered a new contract with the culb after playing a key role in bringing the Premier League trophy back to Old Trafford.

The 34 year old scored his first goal in over five years when he struck the winner in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final home game in charge against Swansea City on Sunday.
