Ole Gunnar Solskjaer describes Axel Tuanzebe as the future of the club

Manchester United manager Solskjaer has predicted Axel Tuanzebe to have a bright future with the club following his standout performance against Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup. The youngster has been a regular feature the club’s pre-season tour of the United States following an impressive 2018/19 season on loan with Aston Villa.

Speaking in a press conference, Solskjaer heaped praise on Tuanzebe, who played through 61 minutes of the club’s 1-0 friendly win over Inter Milan, he said:“He has got a future at Man United, yes, of course he has. Today was the best for him, playing against different opposition. Against Leeds, we knew he could play at that level and that is why he didn’t play against Leeds. Now, he has showed today that he is very capable at this level. Axel is going to be the future of this club.”

Tuanzebe has been highly-rated by the youth coaches at United, but his progress over the 12 months has recently been rewarded with a fresh three-year contract. Based on the recent pre-season showing, the youngster appears ready to tackle the demands of the Premier League but a starting spot remains doubtful, considering the club are focused on pursuing an experienced centre-back of quality.

Leicester City’s Harry Maguire has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and reports have suggested that the deal could be close to completion. In this case, Tuanzebe may have to settle for a bench role, although he could be called upon for the Cup competitions whereby Solskjaer may opt for a squad rotation.

United have landed two players in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer and they are expected to pursue at least two more recruits. Maguire could be on his way from the King Power Stadium while the club also appear keen on signing midfielder Bruno Fernandes from the ranks of Sporting.
