Rodriguez cool on United link

There are some players that Sir Alex Ferguson simply cannot help being linked with and Porto winger James Rodriguez is undoubtedly one of these. However, despite the constant press attention linking the 21-year-old with a switch to Old Trafford, the player insists that he is happy at Porto and is not even considering a switch to United for the time being.

Rodriguez is widely regarded as one of the biggest Colombian sensations and the fact he has scored four goals in eight appearances for Porto this term speaks volumes about his ability. However, it’s not just recent form that has propelled him into becoming one of Europe’s most wanted men, with the former Banfield man proving to be one of the most dangerous men in Porto’s team over the past couple of years following his performances down the wing.

Bearing in mind his obvious credentials, it really should be no surprise to see that the Red Devils are linked with him. However, Rodriguez remains relatively passive over such a switch and says while United’s interest is very flattering, he still has a job to do in Portugal. He told Futbolred, “We all know that England and Manchester United is a great club and that England is a great league, but now I am thinking about Porto, now we are in good form, also personally I’m feeling good now, I’m focused playing at Porto.”

Unfortunately, if any move is going to materialise for Rodriguez, Sir Alex Ferguson is certainly going to have to write out a cheque for a considerable sum of money. It was only last year that he signed a lucrative five year contract and with this said to hold a release clause of €45 million, it’s no surprise to see so many clubs wary about approaching his current club.
