Rodriguez move on the cards?

Having only just missed out on the title last term, Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with all the big name players this summer as he aims to thwart the threat of Manchester City. The latest man to be linked to Old Trafford is Porto winger James Rodriguez, who has experienced a superb season in Porto and is widely regarded as one of the most promising wide men in the game.

At just 20-years-old, Rodriguez has already tasted superb success at Porto having scored thirteen goals from just twenty appearances last term. Such form has alerted several of Europe’s elite, although many are skeptical at the supposed £25m price tag that has been slapped on his head. In fact, should Porto be unwilling to sell, they could demand even more than that after Rodriguez signed a new long-term contract last summer that included a €45m release clause.

However, Rodriguez’s agent has given a big indication that the youngster is open to leaving the Portuguese giants. Speaking to O Jogo, Silvio Sandri said, “There is nothing new to report. This is a matter to be discussed with Porto. Within a couple of weeks I plan to go to Portugal to speak with the leaders of Porto. I cannot talk more about this as it is so complex.”

Should United decide to make a move for Rodriguez, it would be another transfer that would involve Ferguson opting for youth. While over recent years he has invested in several more experienced players, this summer he especially seems to be building for the future having already captured young duo Nick Powell and Shinji Kagawa. However, considering the vast number of players that the Red Devils have been linked with this summer, don’t be surprised if the Rodriguez speculation does not come to fruition and Ferguson attacks other avenues.
