Rooney at Carrington for talks with Moyes

David Moyes is today locked in talks with Wayne Rooney and his representatives regarding the striker’s future at Old Trafford.

The England international is reportedly a target for a number of European heavyweights, including Premier League duo Chelsea and Arsenal though it is believed that the new United manager will try to persuade the 27 year old to remain at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Moyes is also set to make a decision on Wilferd Zaha’s immediate future with the 20 year old a reported target for Fulham, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

The winger, who is currently on an extended break following his participation in the European under 21 Championships in Israel last month, is reportedly keen to prove his worth at United next season as opposed to going out on loan.

Elsewhere, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has stressed that he wants Leighton Baines to remain at Goodison Park following continued interest from United, the Guardian understands.

The Toffee’s turned down a £12million bid for the left back last week, with the Premier League champions set to make an improved offer in due course.

Martinez described the 28 year old as an ‘icon’ whilst speaking to the Liverpool Echo recently.
