Rooney desperate for RVP signature

While Wayne Rooney may not have been too keen on the thought of Usain Bolt joining Manchester United, he has a slightly different opinion on Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie. With United supposedly still in the hunt for the Dutchman’s signature, Rooney has stated that the transfer would be a fantastic piece of business for the club.

United appear to be one of the leading club’s in the race for RVP, with rivals City seemingly out of the running following comments from Roberto Mancini earlier in the week. However, despite the lack of competition from City, Sir Alex Ferguson does not the feel that the deal is a foregone conclusion and has admitted to the press that he’s not sure if United will be able to pull it off. It is understood that Fergie has already had a £15m bid for the player rejected, with Arsenal understood to value the 29-year-old at over £20m.

With the transfer seemingly hitting the headlines every day, reporters have now turned to one of United’s current strikers to ask him on the situation. Speaking to the press about a possible deal, Rooney said, “He’s a player that I admire. He’s a fantastic player, he’s been amazing for Arsenal over many years. Last season was probably his best season of all, he scored a lot of goals. If he does come here he would be a great addition to the squad.”

As the days tick down to the new season, it will certainly be interesting to see how the Van Persie saga turns out. It has been plain to see that throughout the summer Sir Alex Ferguson has had no intention of paying over the odds for a player, as shown in the Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura deals. However, it is not yet clear whether he has reached his limit for this transfer.
