Rooney ruled out of Asia tour

David Moyes has expressed his disappointment at Wayne Rooney’s withdrawal from Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Asia, the Mail Online understands.

The striker is set to return home after scans revealed that a hamstring injury he was carrying is worse than first thought, and with the new season just a month away, the new United manager was not willing to take any chances.

The 27 year old is expected to be fit to face Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 11th.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has hinted that he is interested in signing Rooney, amid continuing speculation that he could leave Old Trafford.

A number of clubs are reportedly interested in securing the former Everton man’s services, though Moyes has insisted that he is not for sale.

The Chelsea manager, has been linked with a number of big names since he returned to Stamford Bridge, refused to rule out a move for Rooney, but stressed that he “cannot speak about players from other teams”.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly met with Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev over a prospective move, the Metro understands.

The forward has also been linked with a return to Old Trafford following claims that he could leave the Bernabeu.
