Rooney set for starting berth at Stoke

Wayne Rooney is set to return to the Manchester United starting line-up for tomorrow afternoon’s trip to Stoke City.

The England international came on for the final half an hour of the Premier League champions’ 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Tuesday evening – his first appearance for the club since New Year’s Day.

Nemanja Vidic remains suspended with fellow centre-back Rio Ferdinand doubtful, while Michael Carrick is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Three points for United could see them rise to fifth place depending on other results, and will close the gap between themselves and leaders Manchester City, who host Chelsea on Monday evening, to ten points.

Meanwhile, Wilfried Zaha has completed his loan move to Cardiff City, according to the Mail Online.

The winger, who has made just four appearances in all competitions for United since joining up with the club in the summer having become Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing a year ago, will link up with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side for the remainder of the season.

Elsewhere, David Moyes has insisted that there will be no further arrivals at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.

Juan Mata became the clubs only signing this month last weekend for a club record fee of £37.1m.
