Scholes set for swansong?

Paul Scholes is set to return for Manchester United’s penultimate home game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The veteran midfielder, who looks set to announce his retirement at the end of the season, has not featured since the 4-1 win over Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round back in January, and could well make his farewell appearance at the weekend.

The hosts will be without Danny Welbeck, who has a knee injury, though Nemanja Vidic is available.
The game is of high importance to the visitors, who are battling hard to secure a top four place under Rafael Benitez.

Elsewhere, the Daily Star have reported of a £60 million transfer warchest supposedly at Sir Alex Ferguson’s disposal this summer.

The club have been linked with moves for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and Everton’s Leighton Baines, whilst rumours of the possible return of Cristiano Ronaldo have echoed throughout recent months.

However, Talksport claim that the latest player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

Real Madrid are also said to be keen on the 20 year old, who has enjoyed a successful first season in Ligue 1, and scored his first international goal for Italy in their 1-1 draw with the Netherlands back in February.
