Manchester United have confirmed that they have rewarded Marcus Rashford with an improved four-year contract. The England international was previously contracted with the club until the summer of 2020 but he has now penned a fresh four-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
“Manchester United has been everything in my life since I arrived here at the age of seven. This club has shaped me, both as a player and as a person, so it is such a privilege every time I get the opportunity to wear the shirt. I want to thank Ole and his staff for everything they have done for me; they are the perfect group of coaches to learn from as I continue my development and look to push on to the next level,” he told the club’s official website.
Rashford has been a regular with the first-team over the past three-and-a-half seasons and during this period, he has amassed 45 goals for the club. Nonetheless, he has drawn criticism over the poor finishing at different stages of every season and there remain a section of the supporters, who are far from pleased with the bumper £200,000-a-week extension.
Former Liverpool ace Danny Murphy predicts that Romelu Lukaku could make way from Manchester United when the season comes to a close. The Belgium international was the undisputed choice upfront during his maiden campaign with the club last term and he contributed 27 goals across all competitions.
However, he has not been able to replicate the form this season with just nine goals and things have become recently become tough for him with the inability to command a starting role. Speaking on TalkSPORT, Murphy has said that Lukaku may not fancy being the club’s number two behind Marcus Rashford in the long-term and this could eventually tempt him to pursue a fresh challenge during the summer.
French forward Anthony Martial is looking to add more goals to his tally for Manchester United between now and the end of the season. The 21-year-old has been in tremendous form for the Red Devils in the early part of the campaign, producing key goals including the winner against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Martial has already racked seven goals in the United shirt across all competitions, and he is just one short of achieving last season’s tally under Jose Mourinho. Despite this, the Frenchman wants to take his game to another level as he aims to make a greater impact with the Europa League holders.
