Manchester United have been exempted from the Premier League title race by one of their former players. Premier League legend Michael Owen spent three years at the Theatre of Dreams between 2009 and 2012 but he believes that his former club is not in a position to fight for the title this season.
Owen was part of the Manchester United squad that won the 2010/11 league title having moved to the club from Newcastle United at the start of the previous campaign. He signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer after the end of his contract with the Magpies.
Robin Van Persie is unlikely to return to the Manchester United starting line-up for this evening’s League Cup third round tie with Liverpool.
The Dutch intentional failed to feature for the first time in the Premier League since signing from Arsenal last summer, after a groin strain ruled him out of Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City.
Following his omission from the starting line up in Manchester United’s Champions League last sixteen second leg defeat to Real Madrid, Wayne Rooney is being linked by many areas of the press with a move away from Old Trafford.
The 27 year old played just seventeen minutes on Tuesday, having been benched in favour of Danny Welbeck and Robin Van Persie.
