Manchester United have been exempted from the Premier League title race by one of their former players. Premier League legend Michael Owen spent three years at the Theatre of Dreams between 2009 and 2012 but he believes that his former club is not in a position to fight for the title this season.

Owen was part of the Manchester United squad that won the 2010/11 league title having moved to the club from Newcastle United at the start of the previous campaign. He signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer after the end of his contract with the Magpies.
