Rooney the star as United win Champions League opener

Wayne Rooney grabbed his 199th and 200th goals for Manchester United as they began their Champions League campaign with a 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford yesterday evening.

The England international opened the scoring after twenty-two minutes, before Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes equalised ten minutes into the second half.

Charlton: Ronaldo not on the agenda

Sir Bobby Charlton has told ESPN that the Manchester United board of directors have not discussed the possibility of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

The Portuguese forward, who scored the winner in last week’s Champions League last sixteen second leg at Old Trafford has been linked with a return to Manchester, but United legend Charlton has rebuffed the claims, whilst declaring that the 28 year old “did go beyond just a great player for us”.
