United close in on Thiago

Manchester United will complete the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona this week, the Daily Star understands.

The Spanish under 21 captain has agreed a five year deal with the Premier League champions, and will cost an initial £17; a figure which could rise to £20m with additional payments.

The 22 year old, who has be pursued by United for several weeks, is keen to be given more first team chances having spent his time at the Nou Camp behind Xavi, Andres Iniesta and more recently Cesc Fabregas in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star also report that Nemanja Vidic is concerned about the expected rival of Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay.

The 31 year old is set to discuss his future with David Moyes in the coming days, though the Serbian’s appearance at the new United manager’s first press conference last Friday would suggest that his future remains at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, the Metro claim that Roma are the latest club to show an interest in Nani, with the winger looking increasingly likely to be sold this summer.

Finally, Usain Bolt is set to realise his dream of playing for Manchester United, as part of Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial with the club next month.
