Manchester United have completed the signing of Juan Mata for a club record transfer fee of £37.1million, according to Sky Sports.
The Spain international completed his medical on Saturday before finalising the biggest deal of the January transfer window so far.
The 25 year old is set to train with his new teammates ahead of the Premier League champions’ home game against Cardiff City tomorrow night, where he is expected to make his debut.
Meanwhile, The Independent understands that Mata, who was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year in both of his full seasons with the club, has been handed the famous number 7 shirt, worn by United icons such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Elsewhere, Sky Sports have reported that Leighton Baines has signed a new deal with Everton, ending United’s hopes of signing the England international this month.
David Moyes made moves to sign the 29 year old during the summer but was knocked back by his former club on three occasions.
The club will now battle with Chelsea to sign Southampton left back Luke Shaw, according to the Telegraph.
The 18 year old, who has emerged as one of the hottest talents in English football, has been valued at around £30m.
