United draw at West Ham as they edge towards title

Manchester United came from behind twice against West Ham United to gain a crucial point in their bid to reclaim the Premier League from rivals Manchester City, who closed the gap at the top to thirteen points after beating Wigan Athletic.

The Hammers took the lead after sixteen minutes through Ricardo Vaz Te, which was cancelled out by Antonio Valencia just after the half hour mark.

Mohammed Diame restored the hosts lead ten minutes after the break before United once again levelled, this time through top scorer Robin Van Persie, though replays show that the Dutch international was offside.

Regardless, Van Persie now has 21 league goals for the season, and more to the point, United are a point closer to a landmark twentieth league title.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men could see their lead cut to ten points by the time they take to the field against Aston Villa on Monday evening, though two more victories will clinch the title, regardless of what their rivals do.

This means that the league could be won at the Emirates Stadium a week on Sunday when United face Arsenal, who themselves will be desperate for the points as they look to secure a top-four finish.
