United go seven clear at the top

Captain Nemanja Vidic has told the clubs website that there is still a long way to go in the title race, despite helping his side regain a seven point advantage over second place Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Red Devil’s came from a goal down to clinch all three points against Southampton at Old Trafford last night.

Jay Rodriguez gave the visitors the lead on three minutes after some calamitous defensive play, though Wayne Rooney levelled just five minutes later with his ninth goal of the season.

The England man didn’t have to wait too long for his tenth, converting Patrice Evra’s cross from close range just before the half hour mark.

United have now conceded first in exactly half of their league games this season, but have remarkably gone on to win nine times.

Javier Hernandez missed the win with a hip injury, though is set to return for Saturday’s trip to Fulham.

Meanwhile, with time running out in the January transfer window, the club look set to make a last ditch bid to sign Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the Kenyan international, who scored the opening goal in his sides historic win over Barcelona in November.
