Manchester United moved twelve points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to yesterday afternoon’s 2-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.
Top scorer Robin Van Persie sealed victory for United, after Ryan Giggs had opened the scoring on thirteen minutes with a goal that maintains the Welshman’s record of scoring in every season of the Premier League since its inception in 1992.
Van Persie now has 19 league goals for the season, and looks well on course to become only the third player after Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry to win the Premier League Golden Boot in successive seasons, and the first to do so with two different clubs.
The Red Devils have won seven and drawn one of their last eight games. Should they repeat that form over the next eight, they will claim a twentieth league title, with Manchester City’s visit to Old Trafford coming up on April 6th.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was in the stands on Sunday ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash at the Bernabeu.
Former United player Cristiano Ronaldo will face his former club having hit a hat trick for the Spanish champions in their 4-1 win over Sevilla on Saturday evening.
