United in for Iniesta

Manchester United are ready to make a move for Barcelona’s Anders Iniesta, according to the Daily Star.

The World Cup winning midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and is stalling over signing an extension as the Catalan club are reportedly refusing to meet his wage demands.

The 29 year old has won countless honours both at club level, internationally and individually since making his debut for Barca in the 2002/03 campaign.

He is set to win his 93rd cap for Spain in Saturday’s friendly against Equatorial Guinea.

Meanwhile, former United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has joined Fulham as first team coach, Sky Sports understands.

The 49 year old will work alongside fellow Dutch man Martin Jol in an attempt to guide the Cottagers away from trouble.

Their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon was their seventh loss of the season, and saw them slip into the bottom three of the Premier League.

Meulensteeen’s move to Craven Cottage has seen both Wilfried Zaha and Anderson linked with loan moves to the London club.

Neither of the midfielders have been able to hold down a first team place under David Moyes this season, and could be allowed to leave on a temporary basis.
