Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona regarding the potential purchase of midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
The Spanish international’s former club Arsenal have first refusal on the player should he become for transfer, though United sources are reportedly confident that will not be an issue.
The centre of midfield is a position which David Moyes is keen to strengthen, not least due to the retirement of Paul Scholes, and Fabregas has emerged as the new manager’s number one target, though ESPN understand that more than one addition in that area of the field.
The 50 year old has also been linked with moves for fellow Barcelona star Thiago Alcantara, former club Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, Luka Modric of Real Madrid and Ajax sensation Christian Eriksen.
One midfielder potentially on his way out of Old Trafford is Nani, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal by the Daily Star.
The Portugal international, who signed from Sporting Lisbon back in 2007, has struggled to hold down a first team place at Old Trafford this season, turning out just 21 times for the Champions.
Newly promoted mega rich Ligue 1 side Monaco are also said to be interested in the 26 year old.
