United pursuit of Fabregas ‘ongoing’

David Moyes has said that the club are continuing in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Sky Sports understands.

The Premier League champions have seen two bids for the 26 year old rejected by the Catalan club, who recently appointed Gerardo Martino as their new manager.

The Manchester United manager is determined to wrap up a deal for the former Arsenal captain, as he looks to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.

Darren Fletcher had hoped to have recovered in time for the beginning of the season following a bowel operation, though he has admitted that he expects to be out of action for a little longer.

The Scotland international made just a handful of appearances last season; his last coming as a substitute against Newcastle United in the 4-3 win at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, the Metro have reported that the club are ready to turn their attention to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, should their attempts to sign Fabregas fail.

The Germany international has two years left on his contract at the Westfalenstadion, though United are confident that they could land him for £20m.

The 22 year old made 45 club appearances last season, scoring four goals, and was named in the European Sports Media Team of the Year.
