United reject new Rooney bid from Chelsea

Manchester United have rejected a fresh bid from Chelsea for striker Wayne Rooney, Sky Sports understands.

The new offer, though to be in the region of £30m has been considered short shrift by the Premier League champions, who maintain that the England international is not for sale.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Rooney is his one and only remaining transfer target this summer, and the player may now hand in a transfer request in an attempt to push through a move.

The 27 year old, who has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, was set to play in this evening’s friendly against AIK in Sweden, but has been ruled out through injury.

Robin Van Persie may lead the line on his thirtieth birthday, while Nemanja Vidic will captain the side after missing the first leg of the pre-season tour due to a sciatica complaint.

The Serbian defender was yesterday linked with a move to Juventus in the Daily Star, though the Serie A champions will reportedly wait until his contract expires next summer.

However the 31 year old, who arrived in Manchester in 2005, is also likely to be offered a one year extension at Old Trafford.
