United set to fail in left-back pursuits

Manchester United are set to revive their interest in Everton left-back Leighton Baines when the transfer window reopens, according to the Mirror.

David Moyes was unsuccessful in his summer pursuit of the man he took to Goodison Park from Wigan Athletic back in 2006, and though the Toffee’s are determined to keep hold of their man, a fresh bid is expected.

The Mirror also understand that the champions are ready to move for Southampton’s left back if they fail in their pursuit of England international Baines, though the South Coast club are as unwilling as their Merseyside counterparts to sell.

Shaw, who signed a new five year deal with the Saints last summer, has been one of the stand out performers in the Saints impressive start to the season.

Manager Mauricio Pocchetino has stressed that he wants Shaw to continue his development under his guidance, so it is highly likely that United will have to look elsewhere.

One left-back who may be on his way out of Old Trafford, albeit temporarily, is Alex Buttner, who is a loan target for Tottenham Hotspur according to the Express.

Serie A side Roma have also been linked with the Dutchman, who has played just 100 minutes of league football so far this season.
