United set to spend big in January

David Moyes will be handed an £80m transfer war chest in January in order to get Manchester United’s season back on track, the Express understands.

The club were linked with a number of players during the summer, but their only major signing was the deadline day capture of Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

The Premier League champions slipped to twelfth position in the Premier League following their 2-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, a result that has represented the club’s worse start to a season in twenty four years.

United’s owners the Glazer family have now said that they will sanction big spending when the transfer window reopens, with manager Moyes expected to again go for Everton defender Leighton Baines and Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, while Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the club will look to strengthen their grip on top spot in Group A in the Champions League as they take on Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk tomorrow evening.

They will then aim to bounce back from back to back Premier League defeats when they travel to bottom of the league Sunderland on Saturday evening.
