United suffer Anfied defeat

David Moyes suffered his first competitive defeat as Manchester United manager, as Liverpool edged past the Premier League champions at Anfield yesterday afternoon.

The club have slipped to seventh position at this early juncture, though the can move up to second with victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday week.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones have withdrawn from the England squad for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

Rooney missed yesterday’s game with a head injury, while Jones lasted just thirty-seven minutes before being substituted after damaging his ankle.

Elsewhere, the club are expected to make final bids for a number of targets ahead of the transfer window slamming shut at 11pm.

Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines have both been the subject of a number of failed bids by United, and it is believed they will be gone for once more with Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera also remaining on the clubs radar.

However, the club appear to have failed in an attempt to sign Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, after the Serie A club knocked back an approach worth close to £11m, according to the Telegraph.
