United to revive Modric intererst

Manchester United are lining up a £25m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, the Metro understands.

The Premier League champions are ready to revive their interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur man as they struggle to land their primary transfer targets.

Thiago Alcantara opted to move to Bayern Munich having been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, while the club have seen bids for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas rejected out of hand.

Mega money moves for Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale seem unlikely to materialise, while no bid has been made for Marouane Fellaini, suggesting that the link was mere paper talk.

Modric, who was a target for United before his switch to the Bernabeu, has failed to cement a regular starting place with the Spanish giants, and could be allowed to move on following the arrivals of Spanish midfield duo Asser Illarramendi and Isco.

Meanwhile, David Moyes is ready to turn down an approach from Valencia, who want to take Javier Hernandez on loan, the Mail Online understands.

Finally, the club ended their pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia in style with a 5-2 victory over Hong Kong side FC Kitchee, thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Fabio Da Sila, Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard.
