United’s lead cut to twelve points

Manchester United’s lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to twelve points as they lost the 165th Manchester derby to rivals City at Old Trafford last night.

An end to end first half surprisingly finished without a goal, with James Milner giving the visitors the lead five minutes after the break.

An own goal from Vincent Kompamy drew United level soon after, though a sublime finish from Sergio Aguero handed Roberto Mancini’s men a vital three points.

The result ended an eighteen game unbeaten run in the league; however ten points from their final seven matches will secure a twentieth league title for the club.

Victory over struggling Stoke City on Sunday will re-establish a fifteen point lead, with Manchester City returning to league action until they host Wigan Athletic the following Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Express claims that Real Madrid will listen to offers for winger Angel Di Maria, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Paris Saint Germain are also said to be interested in the midfielder, who is set to move on after three years at the Bernabeu.

Finally, rumours in Holland suggest that Edwin Van Der Sar could come out of retirement to play for Ajax, where he is currently a marketing director.

The 42 year old also began his playing career at Ajax before moving on to Juventus and Fulham, eventually signing for United in 2005 where he went on to win four league titles, three league cups and the Champions League.
