Van Perise haunts old club once more

Manchester United extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford yesterday afternoon.

A first half goal from former Gunner Robin van Persie was enough to separate the sides, and hand the hosts their ninth win in ten home matches against Arsene Wenger’s men.

The champions have now moved up to fifth place in the division, and are just five points behind the early season pacesetters ahead of the trip to Cardiff City, which takes place a week on Sunday.

Meanwhile, both Michael Carrick and Daniel Sturridge look set to miss England’s forthcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany, according to the Telegraph.

Carrick returned to the United starting XI after three games out and completed the full ninety minutes, but was limping badly as he left the stadium while Welbeck has missed the last three weeks with a knee injury.

Elsewhere, the club are considering a move for Fulham striker Moussa Dembele, who impressed in a recent U21 clash with United, the Mail Online understands.

The 17 year old, who shares a name with the former Cottagers midfielder who moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, scored in a 2-2 draw which was watched by assistant manager Steve Round and coaches Phil Neville and Nicky Butt last month.
