Van Persie bid accepted

It has been one of the most talked about transfer sagas of the summer yet following weeks of negotiations, it looks as though Sir Alex Ferguson is within touching distance of signing his number one target. The club have announced that a deal with Arsenal has been reached for the acquisition of Robin Van Persie, with the fee thought to be in the region of £24m.

The saga has been ongoing for almost six weeks, after the player announced to the press that he had no intentions of signing a new contract at the Emirates Stadium due to Arsenal’s transfer policy. Following on from that, rumours linked RVP with numerous clubs including Juventus, Manchester City and of course United. However, Juventus fell out of the running at an early stage and with City boss Roberto Mancini seemingly declaring defeat for his club last week, many supporters have simply been waiting for this news to be announced.

Of course, there is still the small matter of the Dutchman agreeing personal terms. For now, the club have released the following information to the press via their official website: “Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement for the transfer of Robin Van Persie. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

The completion of this signing would certainly please the United faithful, who have issued concerns following such little transfer activity this summer. Despite early promise following the purchases of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell, Sir Alex Ferguson has remained reserved and kept a very similar squad to last year. The signing of RVP would certainly improve their title chances drastically, with the former Feyenoord striker being one Europe’s most lethal men last term following a return of forty four goals.
