Van Persie to face late test ahead of Baggies clash

Manchester United will be hoping to bounce back from last Sunday’s derby disappointment when they host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Capital One cup victory over Liverpool midweek will have gone some way in repairing the damage caused by the 4-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, but manager David Moyes’ will undoubtedly be looking for all three points against a side who scored five the last time they faced United.

That game was of course, the final match of last season, and of Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge of the club, while United ran out 2-0 winners against the Baggies at Old Trafford last December thanks to an own goal from Gareth McAuley and a stoppage time strike from Robin Van Persie.

The Dutch international will face a late fitness test on a groin complaint ahead of the game, with the club’s only other side-lined player is long term absentee Darren Fletcher.

Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck are all pushing for recalls having been rested in midweek.

Elsewhere, following the performsnces of Jesse Lingard, Federico Macheda and Nick Powell last weekend, a number of Championship clubs are interested in taking United youth pair Michael Keane and Larnell Cole on loan, the Mail Online understands.
