Van Persie treble secures twentieth Championship

Manchester United clinched their twentieth league championship in style with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford last night.

Robin Van Persie was the star of the show, scoring all three goals to topple Luis Suarez at the head of the Premier League top goal scorers chart.

The Dutchman gave United the lead inside ninety seconds, knocking in from close range after good lead up play from Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia.

Ten minutes later, the host advantage was doubled after Wayne Rooney’s searching ball was magnificently dispatched by Van Perise, in what was undoubtedly one of the goals of the season, and one worthy of clinching a league title.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, the result was beyond doubt when Van Perise calmly held the ball up before smashing it into the top corner to seal a remarkable hat trick.

The visitors came back stronger in the second half, but were unable to combat United’s dominance.
There were jubilant scenes at the final whistle, with Sir Alex Ferguson joining his squad of players in celebration on the pitch.

The Premier League trophy will be presented following the match against Swansea City on May 12th, United’s final home game of the season.
